ABOUT US
Our journey began in 2020 with a simple mission: to close the equity gap in youth sports for Title 1 schools. From our humble beginnings serving three schools with recess clinics and equipment for middle school athletic teams, we have seen remarkable growth. Thanks to our community’s support, we have expanded our services to over 43 schools and 25 community partners. Our operations, which include a vital sports equipment warehouse, ensure that all students have access to the resources they need to thrive.
Our Mission
Beyond Sports was created to provide intentional opportunities through sports to positively impact people for life by breaking down barriers through access to programming and funding that address equity and unity in the Triad.
EQUITY
68% of children in our school system are designated as low income. Children are affected in silent ways that diminish their quality of life and opportunities. This includes barriers to participate in sports including, fees, equipment, and opportunities
UNITY
Participation in school-based athletics has many short and long term benefits for student-athletes. Unfortunately, not all students have access to play and not all schools have adequate equipment and apparel. By partnering with the schools we can help support a healthy environment for play and school spirit.
ACCESS
Students not involved in extracurricular activities are 57% more likely to drop out and 27% more likely to use drugs or get arrested. The # of children participating in youth sports continues to drop. While 45% of youngsters 6 to 12 regularly played team or individual sports in 2008, that number had fallen to 38% by 2018, according to a study by the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.
